A+A teleia Kalamata social cooperative presents at A49 Art Space the solo painting exhibition of Christiana Kanellakopoulou, titled “FIGURES.”
*”They told me I was late. I say… thankfully I made it in time. Life always showed me the priorities and I followed. The pandemic led me back to my roots, to meet the girl I had left in the streets of my city. I met many figures — girls I had been, or girls I encountered along the way. Each one had something to tell me about the roles we play in life. These roles are universal — you will recognize yourselves in some of them.”*
The artist searches for “the inner light through the cracks that let the light in.” She feels like a messenger of whispers about women — because that is what she is, and what she wants to understand. The dialogue begins with herself, and the work follows. Her figures emerge from the collective unconscious: “I dip my brushes in the female archetype, in the nymphs who became stars.”
